National Sports Day is observed on 29 August to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. L. D. Arts College organised a programme to celebrate National Sports Day on 27 August 2026 under the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme.
During the programme, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the youth virtually through the Khelo India Samvaad and encouraged them to contribute towards building a developed India through active participation and dedication.
The programme was attended by NSS volunteers, sports enthusiasts and students who had achieved excellence in sports. Outstanding students were felicitated for their achievements. Rahul Vaghela (TYBA, Gujarat University) was recognised as Chess Champion 2026–27 and will represent India at the World Junior Chess Championship in Greece from 3 to 14 October 2026. Riddhi Patel (Group Champion 2026–27) and Kreila Barad (Gujarat University Wrestling Championship 2026–27) were also felicitated.
The programme concluded with an inspiring message for students to participate actively in sports, maintain discipline and strive for excellence.
