Dr. Mahipatsinh Chavda, Principal
The lush green campus of L.D. Arts, blooming with flowers, and the sprawling lawns, and the earth emanating a breath of fresh air after the rains, reiterates my idea of taking education in a pleasing and scenic environment! I feel happy and proud to welcome the new batch of students in such a beautiful atmosphere. The spirit of learning will be enhanced, and the safety and security that I strive to provide to all the students, will stand in good stead, as it has done all these years. After my tenure as the Vice-Chancelor at Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University, from 2019 to 2022, it was a pleasure to resume duties once again at L.D. Arts. And the last three years have been very fruitful for the Institution as a whole. The Institutional assessment and accreditation process was undertaken in the academic year 2024-25; and it has yet again proved our total dedication to the cause of education.
A college that takes pride for beginning its pious journey of education in 1937, under the aegis of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, has empowered generations of students, and enabled them to become responsible, mature, diligent and industrious citizens of this great country!
We came to this campus in the year 2017, furthering our opportunities by being next door neighbours to the IIM, Ahmedabad. With PRL and GU almost in the same vicinity, L.D. Arts can boast of being in august company!
However, what gives me a great sense of pride and satisfaction, is the achievement of our dear student, Himanshi Rathi. A divyanjan, she was most ably supported by the Faculty members and entire staff to finish her education in our college. I saw to it that she is facilitated in every way to attend her classes. Himanshi Rathi went on to win the Gold medal at the Undergraduate B.A. programme at the Gujarat University. But her achievements do not stop there. She is an avid chess player, and represented India in the Special Olympics, held in Beijing, China in January 2024! Himanshi went on to win two Bronze medals in chess – one individual medal, and one team medal! The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, specially took time off to meet Himanshi, and sent a special congratulatory message to her on X!
This year, the Gujarat state government has further honoured her and given her a government posting of Class II level. I offer my best wishes to Himanshi in all her future endeavours, and take immense pride in her achievements!
The rich cultural heritage of the city and of the college has provided us with additional responsibilities to carry forward this extremely rich heritage. And I am glad to note, that we have succeeded in doing so! I am perceived as being a strict disciplinarian, with no leniency towards the rule-breakers; a perception I have not tried to erase because as the Principal, as the person under whom such a vast college operates, I have to think of the students’ future, their preparedness for aligning with the market demands, and at the same time, remaining faithful and committed to our great country.
As we enter the new era of the NEP, the curriculum becomes challenging, with technology taking centre-stage in the teaching-learning process. However, I am proud of the fact that my colleagues, the Faculty members are totally equipped to take these challenges head on! The entire fabric of education, from schools to higher education, is set to undergo a massive change; hence, in such times, it is important to understand the basic tenets of the new system, and get acclimatised for the same at the earliest. For the same, we at L.D. Arts take pride in the fact that we have organized more than a couple of FDPs to familiarize ourselves with the new developments.
The past academic year, 2024-25 has again been a very rich and satisfying year in terms of academic performance, Sports, Co-curricular activities, Cultural Events, the NSS, and the NCC. I am totally confident that the same will happen in the current academic year as well.
As the facilitator for all aspects of the College, I am very happy to note that having such a supportive Management, in the form of AES, is a blessing. Their presence motivates us all, and guides us whenever we need any kind of guidance. Their vast infrastructure is readily available for us at all times.
I am looking forward to a very fruitful time in the coming days. The new system, new curriculum, new dimensions, new learning, and new challenges will take us to a higher level of excellence and intellectual diversity. We have always believed in the principles of Sardar Patel to keep up our country’s march towards brotherhood, equality, tolerance and generosity, and we will continue to do so in the coming years!
Signing off on this upbeat mood to face a fresher, brighter tomorrow!
